Graffiti pier
Description of Project
We worked with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation and Studio Zewde to help inform the future of Graffiti Pier, an old train & cargo pier in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia. Once a pillar of Philadelphia’s industrial past, the pier was accessed by train and used for transporting coal. For several decades the pier has been occupied, maintained, and beautified by the city’s talented graffiti artists. The goal of this project was to create a plan to transform the space into a public park while maintaining the culture that has thrived and given its name. We approached members of neighborhood organizations, graffiti writers, and local artists to develop an advisory group to help inform the process and extend the reach to engage as many people as possible.
